CACREP Board Member Position
Announcement and Application
The
Council for Accreditation for Counseling and Related Educational
Programs (CACREP) promotes the professional competence
of counseling and related practitioners through the development
of preparation standards, through encouraging excellence
in program development, and through the accreditation
of professional preparation programs. With almost 500
accredited programs at more than 200 institutions, CACREP
is committed to the development of standards and procedures
that reflect the needs of a dynamic, diverse and complex
society. CACREP
is dedicated to (1) encouraging and promoting the continuing
development and improvement of preparation programs, and
(2) preparing counseling and related professionals to
provide service consistent with the ideal of optimal human
development.
The Nominations Committee of the CACREP Board of Directors
invites representatives from a variety of areas within
the counseling profession (e.g., counselor educators and
counseling practitioners) and public members to apply
for four to five (4-5) open Board of Director positions
beginning July
1, 2007. Those chosen to serve on the Board
of Directors will serve one five-year term. To be considered
for one of the open positions, a completed application
must be postmarked no later than November 15tht,
2006. The Board seeks candidates interested in working
with CACREP to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse,
multicultural, and technology-driven educational system.

Preferred Board Members
Characteristics
Candidates
for Board membership should posses the following qualities
and characteristics:

commitment
to the counseling profession, CACREP, and the accreditation
process;
·
ability
to see and make decisions both in the short-term and long-term;
·
willingness
to work hard and follow through with commitments in a
timely manner;
·
commitment
to attend and actively participate in all Board activities
(the Board meets bi-annually in January and July throughout
the United States);
·
commitment
to the group process, ability to work as a team, and ability
to build consensus rather than being self-serving;
·
commitment
to diversity and inclusiveness;
·
respectful
of the opinions of others;
·
avoidant
of any potential conflicts of interest; and,
·
thoughtful,
insightful, risk taking, and in possession of a good sense
of humor.
Counselor Educator Position
Openings (2)
Requirements for counselor educators include: an earned doctorate
in Counselor Education, preferably from a CACREP accredited
program; applied expertise in at least one or more of
the specialization areas accredited by CACREP (e.g., Mental
Health Counseling, School Counseling, Community Counseling);
professional identity as that of a counseling professional
(e.g., licenses, certifications, and/or other professional
credentials); evidence of commitment to the profession
of counseling (e.g., memberships and affiliations in counseling
organizations, memberships on other organizations
boards, editorial board membership); and, knowledge and
experience with the CACREP accreditation process.
Counseling Practitioner
Position Openings (1-2)
Requirements for counseling practitioners include: a minimum
of a masters degree in Counselor Education, preferably
from a CACREP accredited program; applied expertise in
at least one or more of the specialization areas accredited
by CACREP (e.g., Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling,
Community Counseling); professional identity as that of
a counseling professional (e.g., licenses, certifications,
and/or other professional credentials); evidence of commitment
to the profession of counseling (e.g., memberships and
affiliations in counseling organizations, memberships
on other organizations boards, editorial board membership);
and, knowledge of, experience with, and/or willingness
to learn the CACREP accreditation process.
Public Member Position Opening (1)
Whereas requirements for public members
do not specify explicit counseling-related educational
or professional experiences, they do note the need for:
understanding of administrative, financial, and/or legal
matters (e.g., fiscal responsibility, budgeting, grant
writing, fundraising); and knowledge of, experience with,
and/or willingness to learn the CACREP accreditation process
(e.g., experience with other accrediting/licensure/certification
bodies).

of the Board
As a self-sustaining Board, CACREP seeks to ensure that various
areas of expertise are represented, both in terms of the
counseling profession itself as well as individuals who
hold special knowledge that will assist with the current
goals of the Board.
