Syracuse University

The 48 credit-hour college counseling  program (titled Student Affairs Counseling) prepares students for a variety of student affairs positions at the college or university level. Only university offices that require counseling skills are included as sites for practicum and internship. There are a variety of educational institutions of higher education  that are situated in greater Syracuse. Therefore, in addition to S.U., students may gain experience in smaller colleges, four year or community colleges, etc. Students in the SAC program complete 12 credit hours in the nationally recognized Higher Education Department of S.U. The remainder of their 48 credit hours are completed within the Counseling and Human Services Department. Students in the SAC  program are enhanced by the mentoring of faculty as well as doctoral students preparing to become senior clinicians or counselor educators. The Department hosts an active chapter of Chi Sigma Iota that offers students additional professional development opportunities as well as social and networking opportunities. Because of its renown as an international university, Syracuse draws both domestic and international students, thus adding  another  level of student diversity.
