Another ACES/CACREP Webinar
Writing a Self-Study to the Intersection of CACREP, ASCA SPA, and CAEP Standards. ASCA, a Specialized Professional Association (SPA), under the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), and has developed school counselor preparation curricula content standards, with a process to review programs and grant national recognition which in turn facilitates unit accreditation by CAEP. Securing CAEP accreditation might be an institutional or state Department of Education (DE) requirement for programs preparing individuals to work in K-12 settings.
Presenters from CACREP-accredited programs will share their strategies and experiences in successfully meeting two separate sets of standards from two different accreditors – CACREP and CAEP. There is considerable overlap in their school counselor preparation standards and counselor education programs can readily secure accreditation without having to write two mutually exclusive self-studies. Programs do not have to choose one accreditor over the other but rather secure both accreditations as required by their institution, the state’s DE, or counselor licensing boards.
The target audience are school counselor educators/programs that are either currently CACREP-accredited and need to secure CAEP accreditation as per their institution or the state’s DE, or school counselor educators/programs finding themselves in a position of having to choose either CACREP or CAEP accreditation.
1. Identify areas of overlap in program and curricular standards of CACREP, ASCA SPA, and CAEP.
2. Examine evidences that may be used to support compliance to the standards in the areas of overlap.
3. Description of processes used to write the self-study to address the spirit and letter of the CACREP, ASCA SPA, and CAEP standards.
