The graduate program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (accredited currently as Community Counseling) is designed to give adequate breadth and depth of training to prepare counselors competent to perform counseling activities in mental health settings. Graduates are prepared to work in agencies such as social services, rehabilitation programs, mental health centers, substance abuse treatment facilities, correctional institutions, and crisis centers. Students who complete the program are eligible for licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor in North Carolina after obtaining a passing score on the National Counselor Exam and completing the required hours of supervised experience.

Program History
The Community Counseling program was initially accredited in January 2006 and has maintained its accreditation. It became a Clinical Mental Health Counseling program in January 2014.
