The Community Counseling Program is a sixty (60) semester hour Master’s Degree that prepares students for employment in the community, private practice, or agency mental health field. This program also provides academic preparation for licensure as a professional counselor (LPC) in the State of Mississippi and National Certification (NCC).

(Note: The Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program is currently accredited under the 2001 standards as a Community Counseling program. The CACREP 2009 standards combine the Community Counseling and Mental Health Counseling standards into standards for Clinical Mental Health Counseling programs. The counseling program intends to seek accreditation for this program as a Clinical Mental Health program when it comes up for reaccreditation in 2012, per CACREP guidelines)

Program History

The Community Counseling program was initially accredited in May 1991 and has maintained its accreditation.  It became a Clinical Mental Health Counseling program in January 2013.
