Program History
Although the CACREP standards titles have changed, Shippensburg has had a Student Affairs program accredited since 1980. In 1980, ACES accredited an M.S. degree in Student Personnel Services in Higher Education. In 1988, the program’s accreditation was reaffirmed as two degree programs under the Student Personnel Services in Higher Education, one with a Counseling emphasis and one with a Developmental emphasis. In 1996, the programs were accredited under the Student Affairs Practice in Higher Education standards with both College Counseling and Professional Practice emphases. The 2003 reaffirmation included both College Counseling and Student Affairs degree programs. In 2011, both degrees were reaffirmed under the Student Affairs and College Counseling standards. In 2020, accreditation of the two degrees was reaffirmed under the College Counseling and Student Affairs standards. The department offers one with a College Student Personnel focus and the other with a College Counseling focus.
