Our 60-semester-hour Master of Science degree program provides self-explorative, curricular and extracurricular experiences, personal development of essential dispositions, as well as supervised practicum and internships that prepare graduates to counsel in a variety of settings, such as community mental health, not for profit agencies, health care organizations, substance abuse treatment centers, business and industry, and private practice . This program meets the educational requirements for licensure as a Professional Counselor in Missouri and for National Counselor Certification. Our program is dedicated to developing a culturally diverse student population and to draw students from local, regional, national, and international locations.

The specialized practice area was found to substantially meet the standards with some minor standards-related deficiencies for which the Board requires further information.
Additional information is required for the following standards:
1.Q – The Counselor Education Program needs to clarify academic advisor evaluation procedures.
1.T – The Counselor Education Program needs to address the number of qualified faculty.
1.U – The Counselor Education Program needs to ensure that over half of the course credit hours are taught by core faculty.
1.AA – The Counselor Education Program must address Faculty in Specialized practice areas.
2.C – The Counselor Education Program needs to address assessment of student acquisition of knowledge and skills.
2.E – The Counselor Education Program must address student fieldwork placement rates.
Program History
The Community Counseling program was initially accredited in July 2010 and has maintained its accreditation. In January 2016, the Community Counseling program was converted to a Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program.
