The Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) track of the Counselor Education Program is a 60-hour course of study from which graduates earn a Master’s Degree in Counselor Education. Students who successfully complete the CMHC track will be eligible for the Licensed Associate Professional Counselor (LAPC) credential in Georgia, which is the prelude to the Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) credential. The Georgia Composite Board of Professional Counselors, Social Workers and Marriage and Family Therapists awards the LPC after candidates complete the additional requirements of three years of supervised post-graduate work experience.

To accommodate working professionals, most courses are held during evening hours, although summer, weekend, and online courses are also available.

The CMHC specialization involves a course of study which can lead to entry level employment in a wide range of human service and community-based mental health settings. These setting may include community mental health centers, employee assistance programs, addiction and recovery programs, and outreach programs geared to specific issues or populations. One semester of counseling practicum and two semesters of counseling internship totaling 700 clock hours in community settings are required to complete the students’ professional training.
