The specialized practice area was found to substantially meet the standards with some minor standards-related deficiencies for which the Board requires further information.

Additional information is required for the following standards:

Standard 1.C – The Counselor Education Program needs to report back on financial support.

Standard 1.I – The Counselor Education Program needs to address counseling instruction environments.

Standard 4.D – The Counselor Education Program needs to address its annual report creation and distribution.

Program History

The Community Counseling program was initially accredited in March 1992 and has maintained its accreditation.  It became a Clinical Mental Health Counseling program in January 2016. When the counseling programs were first accredited the institution was called East Texas State University. The name was changed in 1996 to Texas A&M University - Commerce. In 2024, the name was changed to East Texas A&M University.
