Program History
The Community Counseling program was initially accredited in March 2001 and maintained its accreditation. It became a Clinical Mental Health Counseling program in July 2011. In 2003, a single program that included curriculum in both Community Counseling and Rehabilitation Counseling was reviewed and accredited under CACREP’s Community Counseling Standards. It was also accredited by the Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE) as a Rehabilitation Counseling program. It met the accreditation standards put forth by both organizations. In 2011, a program titled “Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling” was reviewed by CACREP. This program was accredited under the Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) Standards and therefore, considered a CMHC program. Following the merger of CACREP and CORE on July 1, 2017, the institution separated this single program into two programs.
