Texas A&M University - Commerce
The Community Counseling program requires completion of 49 semester hours. The program prepares students for work in agency counseling settings (e.g., substance abuse centers, family counseling centers, mental health agencies). It provides academic preparation for becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Texas and a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC). Courses may be completed on a part-time or full-time basis. Most classes meet in the evening. Courses are offered at the main campus in Commerce, at the university’s Metroplex Center in Mesquite, and online.

Program History
When the counseling programs were first accredited the institution was called East Texas State University. The name was changed in 1996. The Community Counseling program was initially accredited in March 1992 and has maintained its accreditation. It became a Clinical Mental Health Counseling program in January 2016.
