The Counselor Education Program offers a M.Ed.. It is accredited by CACREP (Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs) and graduates meet the academic qualifications for becoming a National Board Certified Counselor (NCC) and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Louisiana. Programs of study include core courses essential to all community counselors. The program leading to the M.Ed. degree consists of a minimum of 60 semester hours in community counseling. Students may complete the degree program on a full or part-time basis. Graduates of the program usually are employed as professional counselors in diverse settings such as community mental health agencies, substance abuse treatment programs, and social services agencies.

Program History
The Community Counseling program was initially accredited in October 1989 and has maintained its accreditation. It became a Clinical Mental Health Counseling program in July 2014.
