Sam Houston State University
The Doctor of Philosophy degree in Counselor Education provides the highest professional degree available to students who aspire to leadership positions in counselor education and school counseling. Although the degree includes a prescribed curriculum of required and elective courses, the doctoral degree will be awarded on the basis of successful completion of coursework and completion of a major research study resulting in the presentation and defense of a dissertation.

The doctoral program was found to substantially meet the standards with some minor standards-related deficiencies for which the Board requires further information.

1.T – The Counselor Education Program needs to report back on adherence to the 12:1 FTE student to faculty ratio.
2.D – The Counselor Education Program needs to address syllabi requirements.
4.A – The Counselor Education Program needs to address the systematic evaluation plan.
4.B – The Counselor Education Program needs to address evaluation of program objectives.
4.F – The Counselor Education Program needs to address assessment of student learning.
