Texas A&M University - Commerce

The doctoral program prepares students to be Counselor Educators. Students may also complete the program to expand their knowledge and abilities as practitioners. Our doctoral graduates complete 66-69 semester hours. If a student’s master’s degree is not from a CACREP-accredited program, additional leveling courses may be required. The time to complete the doctorate varies, depending on the full-time or part-time status. Three to five years is fairly typical. We have doctoral-level graduate assistantships that offer financial support, health insurance benefits, and opportunities such as teaching undergraduate counseling courses, assisting with supervision of master’s-level students, and working in the counseling center.
