University of Texas at San Antonio

The Doctor of Philosophy degree in Counselor Education and Supervision prepares students for advanced work as practitioners, counselor educators, and supervisors. The program models creativity and diversity while fostering developmental and relational processes through its relationship with the community, other university programs, and its students. Further, we prepare students with knowledge and commitment to the ethics of the profession and demonstration of application with multicultural and diverse populations. The doctoral program not only offers students opportunities for advanced study and professional development in counseling and the counselor education field, but also prepares them for future careers in research, academic and clinical settings. Graduates of this CACREP accredited program will be given the opportunity to acquire both the theoretical knowledge and the practical skills needed to work in counselor education programs and to supervise the next generation of counselor educators as they practice their own skills. Students will be expected to formulate their own philosophy and approach to the counseling education field. The need for multicultural competencies in applied clinical settings is emphasized throughout the program.
