The College of New Jersey

Degree Program: Master of Arts in Counseling

The Marriage, Couple and Family Counseling and Therapy (MCFCT) program leads to a 60-credit Master of Arts degree in Counseling and provides students with a foundation for working with individuals and families from a family systems perspective. In the process of completing the program, students acquire knowledge and skills that are anchored in both the theoretical constructs and the practical application of systemic family counseling in a variety of settings. For example, with an emphasis on systemic assessment and intervention, MCFCT students are prepared to fulfill the role of counselor with individuals, couples and families in community and government agencies, hospitals, businesses, and mental health treatment facilities.

The Department of Counselor Education at The College of New Jersey has been continuously accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) since 1991.

Students who complete this 60-credit program will have met the educational requirements for licensure as both a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in New Jersey. For requirements beyond this coursework (e.g., post-masters supervised clinical experience, licensure examination, etc.), please consult the laws and regulations related to both the LMFT and LPC in NJ that are posted on the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs website.
