The CACREP accredited Professional Counseling program at William Paterson University seeks to prepare, educate, and mentor ethical and competent professional counselors who are knowledgeable in issues of diversity and life span development. The program further seeks to enhance development of self-awareness in order that counselor trainees become effective professional counselors, skillful in advocating for clients and the profession, in consulting methods, and in clinical practice in a diverse and technological society. The Professional Counseling Program consists of two separate concentrations. The School Counseling concentration is a 48-credit concentration directly leading to certification as a school counselor in the state of New Jersey.
