The Citadel
The CACREP accredited School Counseling programs are housed in The Citadel School of Education. The 51 semester hour programs offer a M.Ed. in Counselor Education with certification in Elementary (grades K-8) or Secondary (grades 5-12) School Counseling and are built on the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model. The mission of the programs is to prepare elementary and secondary school counselors to become principled educational leaders who are knowledgeable, reflective, and ethical professionals committed to fostering a learner-centered school environment. Students may enroll full-time or part-time. Prior teacher certification or school experience is not required for admission to the programs. Graduates of the programs meet the majority of curriculum requirements to become a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in South Carolina and certification as a National Certified Counselor (NCC). Students may also seek dual (K-12) certification.
