The School Counseling Master’s Degree program is designed to produce educationally oriented school counselors. Graduates are equipped to counsel pupils, consult with parents, teachers and other school and community personnel, and coordinate the resources of the school and community to meet the academic, career, and personal/social needs of pupils. The role calls for facilitating, nurturing persons in sympathy with educational objectives and accustomed to working with others in providing services. It presupposes expertise in child growth and development, assessment, group process, interviewing skills, classroom intervention techniques, interpersonal dynamics, leadership, advocacy, and the use of data to plan and evaluate programs.
