Long Island University Post and Brentwood
The Master of Science in Education – School Counseling program at LIU Post and LIU Brentwood is nationally accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). The program prepares students to work with young people from a developmental perspective to clarify goals, to overcome behavioral and social obstacles, and to enhance the learning experience. Graduates of this program help students (K – 12) cope with a myriad of problems. School Counseling students learn effective individual and group counseling techniques and gain practical field experience through a 90 hour practicum and two internships of 300 hours each at all levels (elementary, middle and high school). This 48-credit program, plus two years of experience as a school counselor in New York, leads to permanent New York State certification as a school counselor.
